ARIEN participated in TESSERA\u2019s second online technical workshop, \u201cConsolidating progress: Laying the groundwork for datasets towards the European Security Data Space for Innovation\u201d, held on 17 February 2026.<\/p>\n
The three-hour event brought together more than 60 experts and professionals from EU-funded security projects, technology providers, research institutions, industry and practitioner organisations. Participants represented fields including fighting crime and terrorism, border management, infrastructure resilience and disaster preparedness.<\/p>\n
The programme explored the architecture and governance of the European Security Data Space for Innovation, including trusted identity mechanisms and rules governing access to data. TESSERA also presented thirteen operational use cases illustrating how datasets and AI-based technologies could support security-related tasks.<\/p>\n
A central theme was the transition from identifying relevant datasets to describing them in a consistent, interoperable way. Discussions covered dataset standardisation, quality assessment and checks supporting regulatory compliance throughout the data lifecycle. Feedback from TESSERA\u2019s first workshop also informed the exchange, highlighting persistent challenges concerning privacy, legal frameworks and the resources required for data sharing.<\/p>\n
For ARIEN, these themes connected with the development of data-driven tools supporting investigations into illicit drug production and trafficking. Access to suitable data, clear governance arrangements and an understanding of data quality are relevant considerations when developing and assessing such technologies.<\/p>\n
Participation extended ARIEN\u2019s exchanges with complementary security research initiatives and provided an opportunity to consider shared data challenges across different operational contexts.<\/p>\n
