ARIEN Holds its 9th and Final General Assembly in Palermo
The ARIEN consortium gathered in Palermo for the project’s 9th and Final General Assembly, marking an important milestone in the closing phase of the project.
After almost three years of joint work, the meeting brought partners together to review the status of the project’s final activities and assess the progress achieved across the different areas of ARIEN. The agenda included the status of final deliverables, the demonstration session and the remaining activities linked to the completion of the project.
A central focus of the meeting was the overall assessment of ARIEN’s achievements. Partners reviewed the progress made against the project’s objectives and discussed the results generated throughout the implementation period, with particular attention to the outcomes of the demonstration activities carried out in relevant and operational environments.
With the experimental and demonstration phase reaching its conclusion, the General Assembly also provided an opportunity to reflect on the performance and maturity of the ARIEN solutions, the lessons emerging from their testing and evaluation, and the extent to which the project had achieved its expected results.
The discussions also covered the project’s wider impact, including dissemination, exploitation, training and policy-related activities, helping to provide a comprehensive overview of ARIEN’s final implementation phase.
As the last General Assembly of the project, the Palermo meeting also offered an opportunity to reflect on the multidisciplinary cooperation that has characterised ARIEN since its launch. Throughout the project, partners from different institutional and professional backgrounds have contributed expertise in artificial intelligence, criminology, legal and ethical aspects, operational practice, research, dissemination and exploitation.
This combination of perspectives has been central to ARIEN’s approach, supporting cooperation among research organisations, technology partners, public authorities and other stakeholders in addressing the complex and evolving challenges linked to illicit drug production and trafficking.
The meeting also highlighted the collective effort behind the project’s results. The progress achieved across ARIEN has depended on the contribution of the entire consortium, the exchange of knowledge across Work Packages and the close coordination of technical, operational and communication activities.
The 9th General Assembly in Palermo therefore marked an important transition point for ARIEN: a final opportunity for the consortium to review the work carried out over the past three years, assess the project’s achievements and align on the remaining activities before formal project closure.
