ARIEN presented at the AI Usage and Regulation Workshop at HEC Lausanne
ARIEN’s intermediate results were presented at the “AI Usage and Regulation” workshop, held on 10–11 June 2025 at Extranef, HEC Lausanne, Switzerland.
The two-day event brought together researchers, industry specialists and public-sector experts to examine AI applications, shared challenges and evolving legal frameworks in Europe and Switzerland. Contributions addressed human–AI interaction, adoption and acceptability, security, privacy and safeguards against AI-generated misinformation.
Within this multidisciplinary setting, ARIEN introduced its work on AI-based tools supporting law-enforcement and border guard authorities in addressing illicit drug production and trafficking. The presentation connected the project’s technological developments with investigative needs across online and physical environments, while drawing attention to the implications of AI use in law enforcement.
The workshop offered a relevant setting for discussing these questions beyond the project’s immediate security research community. Its combination of practical applications and regulatory perspectives placed ARIEN’s work within a wider exchange on how AI technologies are developed, assessed and used.
Participation supported the dissemination of ARIEN’s ongoing research and highlighted the importance of connecting technical expertise, criminological knowledge and operational experience when considering AI-supported investigations.
