ARIEN joins discussions on research uptake and cooperation at the PERIVALLON Final Event

ARIEN participated in the PERIVALLON Final Event, held on 27 November 2025 at the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) in Athens, with participation also available online.

The programme brought together technological results, practitioner experience and policy perspectives on combating environmental crime. A session dedicated to the PERIVALLON platform introduced its tools and pilot use cases, followed by an end-user roundtable examining experiences from project demonstrations. A demonstration corner also offered opportunities to explore the solutions.

The event’s policy session addressed the legal framework, the PERIVALLON environmental crime observatory and the project’s contribution to implementing European Commission policies. It included a contribution from DG HOME and a roundtable involving public administrations and the stakeholder network.

ARIEN contributed to the concluding session on sustainability and future steps, taking part in the “Synergies with other projects” roundtable and dialogue on the uptake of PERIVALLON results. This exchange connected ARIEN’s work on illicit drug production and trafficking with complementary research addressing environmental crime.

Although the projects focus on different criminal activities, both face questions about how analytical technologies can respond to investigative needs and how research results can remain useful beyond project completion. The session provided a setting for comparing approaches and discussing opportunities for continued exchange.

Participation built on the relationship developed through earlier joint meetings and stakeholder activities, extending cooperation between ARIEN and PERIVALLON into discussions on sustainability and the future use of project knowledge.
