ARIEN research contributes to discussions on prevention and emerging drug markets

Research conducted within ARIEN was introduced by SOCIOGRAPHY during a prevention-awareness activity associated with the week of 9–13 March 2026, connecting the project’s work with discussions on contemporary drug markets and their societal implications.

The week also featured “Cambio Gioco”, an initiative promoted by ULSS 6 Euganea in Padua under the theme “Giocare d’anticipo”. Its programme focused on gambling prevention, bringing together students, families, teachers, educators, psychologists, social workers and other professionals through free events held in person and streamed online.

Within this broader prevention context, SOCIOGRAPHY’s contribution highlighted how scientific research, including insights from ARIEN, can help improve understanding of changing drug markets. It brought together criminological, toxicological and technological perspectives, explaining the value of examining drug-related challenges across disciplines.

The connection with prevention extends beyond the development of investigative tools. Understanding how illicit markets evolve, how substances circulate and how digital environments influence criminal activity can also inform discussion among professionals working on social and health-related issues.

Sharing ARIEN-related research in this setting extended the project’s communication beyond specialist security audiences and highlighted the relationship between research, public awareness and informed responses to drug-related challenges.
