Trusted data for security innovation: exchanges at the TESSERA Final Event

The foundations of trusted data sharing were at the centre of the TESSERA Final Event, held on 26 June 2026 at the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) in Athens. ARIEN contributed to the event alongside complementary European research projects, sharing its results within a wider discussion on data-driven security innovation.

Titled “Laying the Foundations for the European Security Data Space for Innovation”, the event brought together more than 60 experts. Participants included security practitioners, representatives of relevant EU agencies and initiatives, technology providers, researchers, academic institutions and industry.

Following an opening address by the European Commission’s TESSERA Project Officer, the programme reviewed the project’s development from its initial vision to its principal achievements. Presentations and discussions examined dataset standardisation, quality, regulatory compliance and the governance arrangements needed for trusted data sharing.

A panel involving TESSERA and CERTAIN explored the relationship between dataset quality and regulatory requirements. Further contributions from CERTAIN and the European Digital Innovation Hub Trakia addressed regulation-aware data spaces and approaches to building trust.

ARIEN took part in the exchange involving sibling projects and related initiatives, alongside LAGO, TITAN EOSC, EOSC Siesta and DETECTOR. Its contribution showcased results from research on AI-supported approaches to illicit drug production and trafficking, connecting investigative applications with the event’s broader focus on security data.

For ARIEN, the relevance of these discussions lay in the conditions supporting useful and responsible data-driven research: suitable datasets, clear access arrangements, reliable quality information and cooperation between organisations. The event provided an opportunity to examine these shared challenges across different projects and operational contexts.

Participation continued ARIEN’s exchanges with TESSERA and strengthened links with initiatives working towards the European Security Data Space for Innovation.
